New Years 2026 – media catch up!

2026 has gotten off to a ropey start for me, only because I started it with a honking cold and I’m still waiting for the cough to go away. But it’s the 6th and I finally feel alive enough to think about the year ahead.

Change of pace

I’ve been doing far too much art, for a long time now, and I want to get back to enjoying some of my other hobbies.

So I think my only real resolution of 2026 is to dive in to media that I’ve been interested in but not found the time for.

Games

I used to play video games as a primary hobby, granted nobody as an adult had the time to game they did as a kid, but I’m planning to pick up the following games that have been on my list to try for ages:

  • Night in the Woods
  • Hollow Knight
  • Octopath Traveller
  • Trails in The Sky
  • Tunic

It’s not a huge list, but these titles in particular are knowing at my brain for having not played them.

Movies

Likewise I have a ton of movies I want to watch but haven’t, so here’s that list:

  • Stand By Me
  • Materialists
  • Bridget Jones 4
  • The Sandlot
  • Holes
  • Walk Two Moons
  • Mid90s
  • The Last Mimzy
  • Moonrise Kingdom
  • October Sky
  • The War (1994)
  • The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
  • Explorers 1985
  • The Last Starfighter
  • The Wizard (1989)

I’m very much on an 80s childhood nostalgia trip at the moment (I blame Stranger Things ending) so that’s where a lot of these titles come from.

Books

I get mad at myself for not reading, the few books I have read I really like, I’m trying to read more ‘easy fiction’, and aiming towards older-kid/teenage titles that I feel like I should have read back in the day, but never got around to.

  • Bridge to Terebithia
  • Secret Garden
  • The Ocean at the End of the Lane
  • Anne of Green Gables
  • The Silver Sword
  • A wrinkle in time
  • Redwall
  • Something Wicked This Way Comes

I actually started ‘Bridge to Terebithia’ this week, as a first thing to tick off my list. I always thought the movie looked magical but I never got around to seeing it, so I think I’ll give the book a go first and see how I feel about taking on the movie after it.
